Free Shyne freestyle HipHopGame.com Audio Recently featured in The Source magazine’s “Unsigned Hype” column, Sha-Stimuli, 25 year-old Brooklyn native and brother to hip-hop veteran Lord Digga, is steadily making his way to the top. Check out Shine's exclusive interview with this emcee on the rise. Shine: When did you become interested in music? Stimuli: I started writing as a kid at 11 or 12 years old. I targeted it as an artist around ’97 when Big passed. I made that push when I left school. Shine: What did Big’s passing have to do with your push to become an artist? Stimuli: At that time I was still a fan of hip-hop. I felt a responsibility to the people to step in. Before that I was still thinkin' school and writin’ and doin’ music. Him leaving made me step up. Shine: So was Biggie one of your musical influences? Stimuli: Definitely. Big was definitely an influence. Before that it was Kane reppin' Brooklyn. But Big was like that person I was totally in awe of. It was the pictures he painted, and him just bein’ able to captivate people. The ’94 or ’95 era was the golden age of rap. Shine: What do you think you can contribute to the hip-hop game as an artist? Stimuli: What I’m tryin’ to bring to the game is the human side. I give people the cause and effect of everything I talk about. I want to bring the emotion and feeling side back to it. I want it to be felt as well as heard. I'm tryin' to give people both sides, not really the glitz and glamour of the game. Shine: Do you think hip-hop has become too commercial? Stimuli: I think it’s too formulaic. I don’t know if it’s the labels’ fault or radio. I think people are afraid to take chances on something new or different. It hurts us cuz’ we don’t know whether to flock to something that’s real or formulaic. We just keep following trends. The fans got caught up into the business side…It’s just gotten real formulaic and I don’t know how that could change. Shine: How close are you to signing with a label? Stimuli: We’re pretty close. It’s just a matter of the right situation. I have a lot of people that believe in me and I want to be able to put a lot of people in a place where they can eat. I’m close to doin’ somethin’ within the next month that’s gonna allow me to put some music out this year. Shine: Are you working on any other projects aside from music? Stimuli: I’m working on a film project with author Omar Tyree. I’m trying to get into some more films, but nothing concrete yet. Everything else is pretty much music related. Shine: Are there any artists today that you’d like to work with? Stimuli: No. I don’t know. Rap artists? I can’t really think of any. If Dre 3000 was still rappin’ I might wanna do somethin’ with him… Shine: What advice can you give to other artists out there tryin’ to get signed? Stimuli: The first thing they would have to do is figure out if they want to do this for real. Then they have to make the sacrifices to do it. Once you do that it’s all about gathering your team that believes in you. Then figure out the type of artist you wanna be. Definitely study the business. Then start the grind and analyze the game. Shine: Do you have an album available? Stimuli: I have two mix tapes available--Let Me Show You the Way and Follow My Lead. As far as a real studio album, we gonna wait until we got that budget and exposure. Shine: What can fans expect when they listen to your music? Stimuli: They can expect a lot of reality and a lot of wordplay. The first one is me just rappin my life away, showin' people what I can do. Shine: Where can fans get it? Stimuli: Right now they can get it at mixtapekings.com and hiphopgame.com. And my web site, www.shastimuli.com, should be up pretty soon. Call us and we’ll get it to you. |
