Ready and able to spit fire at will, Ebony Eyez is bringing new heat to the rap game. Peep the Shine interview below and find out how the first female lyricist to blow from St. Louis plans to hold it down for hip-hop!

Shine: What got you interested in becoming a lyricist?

Ebony Eyez: It's always been a passion of mine, since I was in grade school. I would put little groups together with my friends.

Shine: You went to college for a while when you were older, but decided it wasn't for you?

Ebony Eyez: Yeah, I tried a little quick year. I'd be in class and all I would do is be writing rhymes. (Laughing)

Shine: What do you think sets you apart from other female rappers today?

Ebony Eyez: I'm the first out of St. Louis to get an opportunity, and I'm so hungry right now! That and the fact that most female rappers, we have to be surrounded by other male rappers in order to break into it. Capitol Records is giving me an opportunity to step apart and go out there myself. And, I'm so hungry right now! I'm hungry!

Shine: How did you hook up with Trina?

Ebony Eyez: We had the "In Ya Face" original version goin' and decided to do a remix. So we were like 'Who better to have on this track than Trina?' TrackBoyz already had a relationship with her, so they called her up and she was like "Yeah, I'm on board." She was definitely a cool person to work with, especially since there are so many female artists who don't get along.

Shine: Are there any other artists you'd like to work with?

Ebony Eyez: I really, really, really want to work with Pink...and India Arie. I love their work.

Shine: Who have been some of your musical influences in hip-hop?

Ebony Eyez: Back in da day...I love all the old MC Lyte stuff. Lemme see...I love Missy. I love Jay Z...I have a few! (Laughing)

Shine: With songs like"In Ya Face," "Act Like A Bitch" and "Lame Ass" it sounds like you're definitely representing for strong females everywhere. Was that the concept behind your album?

Ebony Eyez: Definitely! That was definitely the concept behind it. I just felt like it was time for a woman to step up and tell it like it is. No woman wants a lame-ass man comin' up to her in the club, and all women have had days when they feel like actin like a b*tch. I'm just tellin' the truth and nobody can do anything but respect it.

Shine: What impact would you like to have on the hip-hop game overall?

Ebony Eyez: I just want to have longevity, and let people know that, if you're persistent, you can do anything. Comin from St. Louis, who would've thought I would've made it this far? Before Nelly, no one had really heard of St. Louis. I just want people to know how hard I've worked to get where I'm at.***
