The music industry has lost another talented, admirable, and charming artist.

Aaliyah Haughton (1979-2001) died in a fatal plane crash on August 25, 2001 after shooting a video in the Bahamas.

A total of nine people were killed in the crash. Among the deceased are Anthony Dodd of Los Angeles, Scott Gallin, 34, of Pompano Beach; Keith Wallace, 49, also of Los Angeles; Eric Foreman, 29, and Douglas Kratz, 28, both of Hollywood, Ca.; Gina Smith, 29, of New Jersey; and Christopher Maldonado, 32, of New York. Also killed was the plane's pilot, L. Marael.

"Aaliyah's family is devastated at the loss of their loving daughter and sister. Their hearts go out to those families who also lost their loved ones in this tragic accident," read a statement through PMK, the singer's public relations firm.

And Aaliyah's label, Blackground Records, said that it "is devastated with the loss of our Queen. The example she showed young people will be sorely missed and we hope her short time on earth will be an inspiration to young people all over the world."
